The term "koodrotseteem" is derived from the Estonian words "koodrots" (meaning "to dance in a circle") and "teem" (meaning "theme" or "topic"), though it is more commonly known by its regional name, such as *põldteem* (field dance) or *tants* (dance). This dance form is deeply rooted in Estonian agricultural culture and was historically performed during festivals, harvest celebrations, and communal gatherings.

Koodrotseteem typically involves a group of dancers moving in a circular or line formation, often accompanied by traditional Estonian music played on instruments like the kannel (zither), torupill (bagpipe), and viiuld (fiddle).
