Konvektive

Konvektive refers to convective processes, a broad category in which transport or mixing is driven by bulk fluid motion caused by density differences arising from temperature, salinity or composition. It is a fundamental mechanism for transferring heat, mass, and momentum in liquids and gases.

In fluids, convection occurs when heating reduces density, causing warmer fluid to rise and cooler fluid to sink, establishing circulation. Natural convection happens without external forcing; forced convection uses devices like fans, pumps, or flow over surfaces to enhance transport. The behavior and regimes of convection are often described by dimensionless numbers such as Reynolds, Prandtl, and Grashof, with the Nusselt number quantifying the resulting increase in heat transfer.

In engineering and technology, convection is a primary mode of heat transfer in cooling and heating applications, such as radiators, ovens, and electronic devices. Design relies on correlations for natural and forced convection to estimate convective heat transfer coefficients and overall system performance.

Geoscience and oceanography also involve convective processes, such as mantle convection and thermohaline circulation, which redistribute heat and material in Earth systems.
