Kontratseptsiooni
Kontratseptsioon (from Latin "contra" meaning against and "ceptio" meaning to seize) refers to methods used to prevent pregnancy. These methods can be categorized into three main types: hormonal, barrier, and intrauterine devices (IUDs). Hormonal methods include oral contraceptives, injectables, implants, and patches, which work by altering hormone levels to prevent ovulation or thicken cervical mucus. Barrier methods, such as condoms and diaphragms, physically prevent sperm from reaching the egg. IUDs are small, T-shaped devices inserted into the uterus to prevent pregnancy by altering the uterine lining or interfering with sperm movement. Other methods include sterilization procedures like tubal ligation for women and vasectomy for men, as well as natural family planning methods that track menstrual cycles and ovulation. The choice of contraceptive method depends on individual preferences, health considerations, and desired effectiveness. Regular use of contraceptives is essential for their effectiveness, and it is important to consult healthcare professionals for guidance on the most suitable method.
