Kontextusmodellek, or context models, are conceptual frameworks used to understand and represent the contextual information that surrounds a particular event, piece of data, or communication. They aim to capture the various factors that influence the meaning and interpretation of something. These models are employed across diverse fields such as artificial intelligence, natural language processing, information retrieval, and user experience design.

A core idea behind context models is that meaning is not inherent but rather derived from the surrounding circumstances. This context can encompass a wide range of elements. For instance, in a linguistic context, it might include the preceding and succeeding sentences, the speaker's intent, the relationship between communicators, and the cultural background. In a technological context, it could involve the user's current location, time of day, device being used, and past interactions with a system.

Different types of context models exist. Some are rule-based, defining specific relationships between contextual elements. Others are statistical or machine learning-based, learning patterns and associations from data. Probabilistic models are also common, assigning probabilities to different contextual states. The goal is to create a representation that allows systems to make more informed decisions, provide more relevant responses, or understand information more accurately. For example, a search engine might use context models to refine search results based on a user's past searches and current location. In AI, context models are crucial for developing systems that can engage in more natural and intelligent conversations.
