Kontaktläätsedele, commonly referred to as contact lenses, are thin lenses placed directly on the surface of the eye to correct vision problems. These lenses are typically replaced daily, bi-weekly, or monthly. Rigid gas-permeable (RGP) lenses are another option; they are firmer and offer sharper vision for some patients, especially those with significant astigmatism.

Proper hygiene and care are crucial for contact lens wearers to prevent eye infections and complications. This involves cleaning and storing lenses according to the manufacturer's instructions and regular eye examinations by a qualified eye care professional. Contraindications for contact lens wear include certain eye conditions, allergies, or environments with high dust or chemical exposure. Consulting an optometrist or ophthalmologist is essential to determine if contact lenses are a suitable option and to receive a proper fitting.
