Konsonantsüntees, often referred to as consonant synthesis, is a process within speech synthesis where consonant sounds are generated. In text-to-speech (TTS) systems, achieving natural-sounding consonant production is crucial for intelligibility. Consonants are typically characterized by their place and manner of articulation, as well as voicing. For example, the sound /p/ is a voiceless bilabial stop, while /b/ is its voiced counterpart.

Generating these sounds involves manipulating acoustic parameters such as frequency, amplitude, and duration to mimic the complex airflow and vocal tract configurations that produce consonants. Different synthesis methods exist, including concatenative synthesis, which stitches together pre-recorded consonant units, and parametric synthesis, which uses mathematical models to generate the acoustic signal.

Challenges in konsonantsüntees include accurately replicating the subtle acoustic cues that distinguish similar consonants, such as the aspiration in an initial voiceless stop or the precise timing of release bursts. Contextual variations, like coarticulation where a consonant's sound is influenced by adjacent vowels, also pose a significant hurdle. Advanced techniques in machine learning and deep learning have shown promise in improving the naturalness and accuracy of synthesized consonants.
