Konkurrensprogrammering, also known as competitive programming, is an intellectual sport where participants are challenged to solve computational problems using algorithms and data structures within a set time limit. These problems typically involve mathematical reasoning, algorithmic design, and efficient implementation. Competitors write code in a specific programming language, such as C++, Java, or Python, to find solutions that are both correct and fast enough to pass a series of test cases.

The programming problems in competitive programming are diverse, ranging from simple arithmetic and string manipulation to complex graph theory, dynamic programming, and number theory. The focus is on algorithmic thinking and problem-solving skills rather than creating user interfaces or large-scale applications. Participants often use standard libraries and fundamental algorithms.

Competitions are held both online and offline. Online platforms like Codeforces, AtCoder, and TopCoder host regular contests, allowing a global community to participate. Major international events include the International Collegiate Programming Contest (ICPC) and Google Code Jam. Success in competitive programming often requires a strong understanding of time and space complexity, as well as the ability to quickly identify and implement appropriate algorithms. Many participants use competitive programming as a way to hone their programming skills, prepare for technical interviews at software companies, or simply for the enjoyment of solving challenging problems.
