Konjunktionelle is a term used in grammar to describe elements that function as conjunctions or relate to conjunction usage. The word is formed from konjunktion, the Danish word for conjunction, with an adjectival suffix, yielding a label for connecting elements in sentence structure. In linguistic descriptions, the term helps scholars group words, phrases, and clauses that serve to link other units.

Definition and scope. Konjunktionelle items encompass conjunctions themselves as well as related connecting devices that establish relationships between clauses or phrases. They are typically analyzed as part of the category responsible for clause linkage, and they are distinguished from other means of connection such as punctuation or discourse markers.

Classification. Linguists differentiate between coordinating conjunctions, which join elements of equal syntactic status (for example og, men, eller in Danish), and subordinating conjunctions, which introduce dependent clauses (such as at, hvis, fordi, når). Some analyses also include conjunctive adverbs or discourse-connective elements when they function to connect clauses rather than merely modifying the surrounding sentence.

Function. Konjunktionelle elements organize sentence structure and encode semantic relationships, including addition, choice, contrast, cause, condition, time, or consequence.
