Konizáció

Konizáció is a medical procedure also known as a cervical conization or cone biopsy. It is performed to remove a cone-shaped piece of abnormal tissue from the cervix. This procedure is most commonly used for the diagnosis and treatment of precancerous or cancerous cells on the cervix.

The procedure typically involves the use of a scalpel or a loop electrosurgical excision procedure (LEEP) tool. LEEP uses an electric current passed through a thin wire loop to cut away the abnormal tissue. In some cases, a laser may be used for the excision. Konizáció is usually performed in an outpatient setting and does not require an overnight hospital stay.

Reasons for performing a konizáció include abnormal results from a Pap smear or colposcopy, which is a procedure to examine the cervix with magnification. By removing the abnormal tissue, doctors can determine the extent of any precancerous changes and prevent them from developing into cervical cancer. The removed tissue is sent to a laboratory for microscopic examination.

After the procedure, some spotting or light bleeding is normal, as is some discomfort. Recovery time varies but most individuals can return to normal activities within a few days to a couple of weeks. Follow-up appointments are crucial to monitor the healing process and ensure that all abnormal cells have been removed.
