Konfigüre

Konfigüre refers to the practice of configuring IT systems through explicit, declarative configurations that can be reproduced and version-controlled. It is used as a coined term in software engineering and system administration to highlight the shift from bespoke scripting to standardized configuration as code.

Although not part of formal German grammar, the term draws on konfigurieren (to configure) and is encountered in documentation and blogs as a stylized noun or verb to describe configuration work in a systematic way.

Key principles include declarative configuration, idempotence, reproducibility, and version control. Configurations describe desired state rather than steps to reach it, enabling automated tooling to converge the system to the specified state. Environment parity and auditable changes are common goals.

Common tools and contexts include infrastructure as code (IaC) with Terraform or CloudFormation; configuration management with Ansible, Puppet, or Chef; and application configuration via YAML, JSON, or TOML manifests. Typical practices include storing configuration in a repository, testing configurations with linters or dry runs, and applying changes through automated pipelines.

Konfigüre is part of a broader movement toward declarative and reproducible system administration. Critics point to potential complexity and the need to manage secrets and drift. The term remains informal and context-dependent, serving as a shorthand for systematic configuration work rather than a formal standard.
