Kompresszálás

Kompresszálás is a Hungarian term that broadly refers to the act of compressing or reducing something in size. In computing, it most commonly refers to data compression, the process of encoding information using fewer bits than the original representation. This is achieved by identifying and eliminating redundancy within the data. Various algorithms exist for kompresszálás, each with its own strengths and weaknesses regarding compression ratio, speed, and computational resources required.

Common applications of kompresszálás include file archiving, where multiple files are bundled together and compressed into a single archive (e.g., ZIP, RAR). It is also fundamental to efficient data transmission over networks and storage on devices, as it reduces the amount of data that needs to be sent or stored. Image, audio, and video formats often employ specific kompresszálás techniques to reduce file sizes while maintaining acceptable quality.

There are two main categories of kompresszálás: lossless and lossy. Lossless compression ensures that the original data can be perfectly reconstructed from the compressed version, making it suitable for text files, executable programs, and other data where accuracy is paramount.
