In electricity and electronics, comparators are essential circuits that compare two input voltages and produce an output indicating which is larger. Komparaattorityyppejä, or comparator types, can be broadly categorized based on their fundamental operation and characteristics.

There are also voltage comparators that specifically incorporate internal reference voltages. These simplify circuit design by providing a fixed threshold for comparison, eliminating the need for external voltage dividers or references.

Furthermore, hysteretic comparators, often called Schmitt triggers, are distinguished by their use of positive feedback. This feedback creates two different switching thresholds: one for when the input voltage is rising and another for when it is falling. This hysteresis is crucial for filtering out noise and preventing rapid, unwanted switching in the presence of slow-moving input signals.
