Kommuterer

Kommuterer is the present tense form of the verb kommutere in several Scandinavian languages, used primarily in mathematical and scientific contexts. It denotes the property of commutativity, meaning that two operations or elements can be applied in either order without changing the result. If A and B kommuterer, then AB = BA.

In mathematics and physics, the concept behind kommutering is central to areas such as algebra, linear algebra, and quantum mechanics. The related noun kommutator describes the measure of non-commutativity, commonly defined as [A,B] = AB − BA.
