Kommunikationsstøtter

Kommunikationsstøtter, also known as augmentative and alternative communication (AAC) devices, are tools and strategies used to support individuals who have difficulty with verbal communication. These aids can range from simple picture boards to sophisticated electronic devices. The primary goal of kommunikationsstøtter is to enable individuals to express their needs, wants, thoughts, and feelings effectively, thereby improving their social participation and overall quality of life.

These can be low-tech, like written communication, alphabet boards, or picture exchange systems (PECS), or high-tech, which are typically electronic devices capable of generating synthesized speech or displaying text. High-tech devices can include speech-generating devices (SGDs) and tablets with specialized communication apps.

It depends on the user's specific communication needs, cognitive abilities, physical capabilities, and personal preferences. A team of professionals, often including speech-language pathologists, occupational therapists, educators, and family members, usually collaborates to determine the most appropriate AAC system.
