Kohuslikult

Kohuslikult is an Estonian adverb meaning “by order of the court” or “in a manner mandated by a court.” It is formed from the adjective kohuslik (court-related) with the adverbial suffix -lt. The term is primarily used in legal and administrative contexts to indicate that an action, obligation, or result arises from a court decision, judgment, or a legal requirement rather than from voluntary agreement.

In practice, kohuslikult denotes compulsory or compelled compliance with judicial directives. For example, an act performed kohuslikult would be done because the court has ordered or mandated it; a document submitted kohuslikult would have to be provided under court instruction. It does not simply mean legally or lawfully; it specifies the source of the obligation being the court.

The word is relatively formal and is most common in statutes, court rulings, legal commentary, and official correspondence. In everyday language, speakers may instead use phrases such as “kohtu poolt määratud” or “kohustuslik” depending on the nuance, but kohuslikult remains the precise adverbial form.
