Koaleszenzsysteme

Koaleszenzsysteme, often translated as coalescence systems, are processes or devices designed to bring small droplets or particles together into larger ones. This phenomenon is fundamental in various natural and industrial applications. In nature, koaleszenz is observed when raindrops form in clouds, where tiny water droplets merge to become large enough to fall.

In industrial settings, koaleszenzsysteme are utilized for separation purposes. For instance, in oil-water separation, a coalescer is used to promote the merging of small oil droplets suspended in water. As these droplets combine, they increase in size and density, allowing them to separate more easily through gravity or other methods. This is crucial in wastewater treatment, bilge water management on ships, and in the petroleum industry.

The design of a coalescer typically involves a medium or structure that provides a large surface area and specific surface properties.
