Koagulaatioerottimet

Koagulaatioerottimet are devices used in various industrial and wastewater treatment processes to facilitate the separation of suspended solids from a liquid. The principle behind their operation involves the use of coagulants, which are chemical substances added to the liquid to destabilize the colloidal particles and cause them to aggregate. These aggregated particles, known as flocs, become larger and heavier, making them easier to remove from the liquid.

The process typically begins with the introduction of a coagulant, such as aluminum sulfate (alum) or ferric chloride, into the wastewater stream. This is followed by rapid mixing to ensure the coagulant disperses evenly and reacts with the suspended particles. After the coagulation phase, a slower mixing step, known as flocculation, promotes the growth of the flocs by allowing the destabilized particles to collide and adhere to each other.

Once the flocs have formed, they are then directed to a separation unit. This separation can be achieved through several methods, including sedimentation (gravity settling), flotation, or filtration. In sedimentation, the heavier flocs settle to the bottom of a tank, allowing clear liquid to be decanted from the top. Flotation involves introducing air bubbles that attach to the flocs, causing them to rise to the surface where they can be skimmed off. Filtration uses a porous medium to physically trap the flocs.

Koagulaatioerottimet are valuable in applications ranging from municipal water treatment and industrial process water purification to the removal of contaminants from mining and manufacturing effluents. Their effectiveness in reducing turbidity and removing a wide range of suspended matter makes them an essential component in many water management strategies.
