Kletterroute
Kletterroute is the term used in German-speaking climbing culture to designate a line up a rock face that climbers ascend using natural holds, features, and protection. A Kletterroute can be approached as traditional climbing (where climbers place protection as they go), sport climbing (where protection is fixed bolts), or a mixed route that combines both. Routes are documented in guidebooks and on online databases with the route name, location, length, and a difficulty grade. Grades convey the level of technical difficulty, strength, endurance, and commitment required. In German-speaking regions, traditional routes commonly use the UIAA grading scale (I to XII), while sport routes more often use the French-based sport grade (for example 6a, 7c) or an equivalent.
