Klemmringe

Klemmringe are mechanical fasteners used to secure components on a shaft or inside a bore by means of friction. They are designed to transmit torque and to locate parts without the need for keys, pins, or permanent deformation. The rings are installed around a shaft or into a bore and are tightened so that the inner or outer surface exerts a radial clamping force, creating an interference fit with the mating part.

There are two common forms. Split clamp rings consist of ring segments that are assembled around the shaft and clamped together with screws, allowing quick mounting and disassembly. Full rings provide continuous contact and are typically installed with clamping elements such as screws or a tightening nut to generate the clamping force. In many designs, the rings are used on external shafts or inside bores, and they may function as a mounting aid for pulleys, gears, sprockets, bearings, or other hubs.

Materials and finishes vary according to application. Typical materials include carbon and alloy steels, stainless steels, and aluminum, with surface finishes such as zinc plating, black oxide, or hardening for increased wear resistance. Precision of the inner diameter and surface finish are important to achieve reliable frictional grip and to minimize shaft damage.

Applications include machine tools, drive systems, robotics, and any situation requiring fast, reversible transmission of torque without keys. Advantages of Klemmringe include easy mounting and disassembly, reusability, and the ability to adjust component positions. Limitations include reliance on shaft and bore quality, potential loss of clamping force under high vibration or thermal cycling, and the need for proper torque control during installation.

Installation typically involves cleaning mating surfaces, aligning the ring, positioning screws, and tightening crosswise to the specified torque.
