Kivilajin

Kivilajin is a fictional mineral species used in geology education and speculative fiction. It is not recognized as a real mineral by major geological authorities. The name derives from Finnish kivi, meaning stone, and laji, meaning species, and it is commonly used in teaching to illustrate mineral classification and solid-solution concepts.

Composition and structure. In educational contexts, kivilajin is described as a silicate mineral with a tetrahedral SiO4 network and variable amounts of iron, magnesium, calcium, and aluminum. The generalized formula is written as (Fe,Mg,Ca)(SiO4) with possible Al substitutions. Crystals are imagined to occur in monoclinic or orthorhombic systems and often present prismatic shapes.
