Kirurgidele

Kirurgidele, also known as the lesser spotted eagle or the lesser sparrowhawk, is a medium-sized bird of prey belonging to the Accipitridae family. It is native to Europe, Asia, and North Africa, and is known for its distinctive appearance and behavior. The species is characterized by its short, rounded wings, a broad tail, and a pale, streaked underbelly. Adults have a brown back with white spots, and a white rump and tail. The species is a resident breeder in many parts of its range, but is migratory in others.

Kirurgidele is a generalist predator, feeding on a variety of small mammals, birds, and reptiles. It is known for its agility and stealth, often perching in trees or on the ground to ambush its prey. The species is monogamous, with pairs often remaining together for several years. Nesting typically occurs in trees, with the female laying 3-4 eggs. Both parents share incubation duties, and the chicks are fed by both parents until they are ready to fledge.

The kirurgidele is currently listed as Least Concern on the IUCN Red List, with a stable population trend. However, habitat loss and degradation, as well as persecution due to its similarity in appearance to the more dangerous Eurasian eagle-owl, pose potential threats to the species. Conservation efforts focus on protecting and restoring suitable habitats, as well as raising awareness about the species to reduce persecution.
