Kinnistuomandi

Kinnistuomandi is a Finnish legal term historically referring to the competence or mandate related to mortgage and lien matters on real estate. In earlier Finnish law, kinnistuomari (the mortgage judge or official) possessed authority to oversee the registration, enforcement, and release of mortgage rights in immovable property, and to adjudicate disputes connected to such rights.

The scope of kinnistuomandi included actions connected to the creation and validation of mortgage liens, the ordering of measures to secure a creditor’s claim, and the supervision of procedures related to foreclosures or forced sales when a debtor failed to meet obligations.
