Kihtarkitektuur

Kihtarkitektuur, also known as layered architecture, is a software design pattern that structures an application into horizontal layers. Each layer serves a specific purpose and interacts only with the layer directly below it. This separation of concerns promotes modularity, maintainability, and scalability in software development.

The most common layers in a kihtarkitektuur are the presentation layer, the business logic layer, and the data access layer. The presentation layer, often referred to as the UI layer, is responsible for displaying information to the user and handling user input. The business logic layer, also known as the application layer or domain layer, contains the core business rules and functionalities of the application. It processes data, makes decisions, and orchestrates operations. The data access layer, or persistence layer, is responsible for interacting with the data storage, such as databases. It handles the retrieval and storage of data.

By dividing an application into these distinct layers, developers can work on different parts of the system independently. Changes made in one layer typically do not affect other layers, as long as the interfaces between layers remain consistent. This isolation simplifies development, testing, and debugging. It also allows for easier replacement or modification of individual layers. For example, the presentation layer can be completely redesigned without altering the business logic or data access components.

The kihtarkitektuur pattern is widely adopted due to its benefits in managing complexity. It facilitates teamwork by allowing different developers or teams to focus on specific layers. The hierarchical structure also aids in understanding the overall flow of data and control within an application. However, it can sometimes introduce overhead due to the additional communication required between layers.
