Khwarshi

Khwarshi is a term that can refer to several things, most notably a historical region and its people, and a particular type of textile. Historically, Khwarizm, also known as Khwarsh, was a large oasis region in Central Asia, situated on the lower Amu Darya river in the plains of present-day Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan. The people from this region were known as Khwarizmians.

More commonly in modern contexts, Khwarshi refers to a specific type of embroidered silk textile originating from the Fergana Valley in Uzbekistan. These textiles are characterized by their vibrant colors, intricate floral and geometric patterns, and the use of silk thread. Khwarshi embroidery has a long tradition, with techniques passed down through generations of artisans. These pieces were historically used for clothing, decorative hangings, and ceremonial purposes.
