Keynesiläistä

Keynesiläistä is a Finnish term derived from the English name of the economist John Maynard Keynes. It is used to describe ideas, policies, or theories that are influenced by Keynesian economics, which emphasizes the importance of total spending, or aggregate demand, in determining economic performance. In Finnish political and economic discourse, keynesiläistä often refer to stimulus measures, public investment programmes, and fiscal policies aimed at stabilising the economy during downturns. The concept also includes the use of monetary tools such as interest rate adjustments and quantitative easing to manage inflation and unemployment.

Keynesian ideas were first formally introduced in Keynes's 1936 book The General Theory of Employment, Interest and Money, which challenged the classical view that markets naturally gravitate toward full employment. Finnish economists adopted keynesiläistä principles in the post‑World War War period, especially during the 1960s and 1970s, when the country pursued expansive welfare-state policies and sought to mitigate the effects of global economic volatility. During the 1990s, Finland experienced a severe banking crisis and recession; keynesiläistä policies such as increased fiscal spending and monetary easing were deployed to support the recovery.
