Keskkõrvaprobleemid refer to conditions that affect the middle ear, which is the part of the ear responsible for transmitting sound vibrations from the eardrum to the inner ear. These problems can range from minor inconveniences to significant hearing impairments. The middle ear consists of the eardrum and the tiny bones (malleus, incus, and stapes) that conduct sound vibrations.

Common causes of middle ear problems include infections, fluid buildup, and damage to the eardrum or middle ear bones. Infections can be viral or bacterial, with bacterial infections often requiring antibiotic treatment. Fluid buildup, known as otitis media with effusion, can occur after an ear infection or due to allergies, and may resolve on its own or require treatment with decongestants or antihistamines.

Symptoms of middle ear problems may include ear pain, hearing loss, tinnitus (ringing in the ears), and balance issues. Diagnosis typically involves a physical examination and may include hearing tests or imaging studies like tympanometry or acoustic reflex testing.

Treatment options depend on the underlying cause and severity of the problem. For infections, antibiotics are commonly prescribed. For fluid buildup, decongestants or antihistamines may be recommended, and in some cases, a surgical procedure called a myringotomy may be necessary to drain the fluid. In cases of damage to the middle ear bones, hearing aids or cochlear implants may be recommended to improve hearing.

Preventive measures include avoiding smoking, managing allergies, and practicing good hygiene to reduce the risk of infections. If symptoms persist or worsen, it is important to consult a healthcare professional for proper evaluation and treatment.
