Kellarikaapit

Kellarikaapit, often translated as cellar cabinets or pantry cupboards, are storage units traditionally found in basements or root cellars. These cabinets are designed for long-term food preservation and storage, particularly for items that benefit from cool, dark, and stable environments. Historically, they were essential for households that produced their own food or relied on seasonal produce.

The construction of kellarikaapit typically involves sturdy materials like wood, chosen for its durability and insulating properties. They often feature multiple shelves and drawers, allowing for organized storage of various food items such as canned goods, root vegetables, preserves, and even dried meats or fish.
