This typically involves surrounding the item with a border, known as a mat or mount, and then enclosing both the item and the mat within a frame. The primary purpose of kehystämisen is to enhance the visual appeal of the piece, protect it from environmental damage such as dust and light, and provide a means for hanging or standing it.
