Kehitystasot, often translated as "development levels" or "stages of development," is a concept used to describe the progression of a country or region from a less advanced to a more advanced state. This progression is typically measured across various indicators, including economic, social, and technological factors.

Economically, development levels are often assessed by Gross Domestic Product (GDP) per capita, industrialization, and trade patterns. High-income countries generally have diversified economies, advanced manufacturing, and strong service sectors. Low-income countries, conversely, often rely heavily on agriculture and raw material exports, with less developed infrastructure.

Socially, development levels can be gauged by indicators such as life expectancy, literacy rates, access to education and healthcare, and urbanization. Countries with higher development levels tend to have better public health systems, higher educational attainment, and more urbanized populations.

Technologically, development is seen in the adoption and innovation of new technologies, access to information and communication technologies, and research and development capacity. Advanced economies typically lead in technological innovation and widespread adoption.

The concept of kehitystasot is not static, and countries can move between different levels over time through various policies and global economic shifts. International organizations often categorize countries into different development levels to facilitate aid, trade agreements, and policy-making. However, the exact definitions and classifications can vary between different organizations.
