Kegyhely, in Hungarian religious vocabulary, refers to a sacred place where believers seek divine grace or intercession. The word combines kegy (grace, favor) withhely (place), thus literally meaning a “place of grace.” In practice, a kegyhely is a shrine, chapel, grotto, or even a site of natural landscape that is venerated because of a historical connection with a saint, a miracle attributed to a saint, or a Marian apparition.
