Katkeavia is a fictional genus of microscopic marine protists created for world-building and educational demonstrations. Within this hypothetical framework, the described species Katkeavia marina serves as the type example used to illustrate protist diversity and life cycles.

The name combines a constructed root, katke-, with the common taxonomic suffix -avia, chosen to resemble real protist nomenclature. In the fictional taxonomy, Katkeavia is placed in the provisional family Katkeaviaceae and the order Katkeaviales.

Description. Members are either unicellular or form simple colonies up to a few hundred micrometers in length. They possess gelatinous envelopes, chloroplasts for photosynthesis, and bioluminescent vacuoles that glow under stress. Reproduction occurs through binary fission and colony-wide release of motile zoospores.

Distribution and habitat. Katkeavia marina is imagined to inhabit temperate to subpolar coastal waters, often on rocky substrates and kelp forests, at depths of 5 to 60 meters. Blooms are associated with nutrient influx and seasonal mixing.

Ecology. As a primary producer, Katkeavia contributes to local carbon cycles and supports microfaunal communities. It forms associations with bacterial consortia, participates in biofilm formation, and can be grazed by small ciliates and microinvertebrates.
