Katkaisua

Katkaisua is the partitive singular form of the Finnish noun katkaisu, which denotes the act of cutting off, severing, or interrupting something. It covers both concrete acts of physically separating an object and more abstract disruptions, such as the cessation of a process, service, or signal.

In everyday language, katkaisua is used in a wide range of contexts. Typical examples include electricity and power supply: sähkön katkaisu or sähkökatko (a power outage). It also appears with communications and services: yhteyden katkaisu (loss of connection) or palvelun katkaisu (discontinuation of a service). In medical language, katkaisu may describe cutting procedures in a general sense, but the precise term for surgical amputation is usually amputation (amputaatio).
