Katastriline

Katastriline is a term that appears in some mathematical problem sets and lightweight theoretical discussions as a name for a certain trilinear operation. It is not a standard object in mainstream mathematics, but it serves as a convenient placeholder to explore properties of multilinear forms involving three arguments.

Definition and perspective: Formally, a Katastriline on a vector space V over a field F is a trilinear map K: V × V × V → F, linear in each argument. In its common instantiation, K is examined under symmetry constraints such as total symmetry (K(x,y,z) = K(y,x,z) = K(x,z,y)) or mixed symmetry types, for example symmetric in the first two variables and alternating with respect to the third. In a fixed basis, K corresponds to a tensor with components K_{ijk} that obey the corresponding index symmetries.

Notes on structure: A Katastriline can be described by a rank-3 tensor, with the chosen symmetry class determining which components are equal or negated under permutations of indices.
