Karsygdomme, often referred to as cancer, encompasses a broad group of diseases characterized by uncontrolled cell growth. These abnormal cells have the potential to invade surrounding tissues and spread to distant parts of the body, a process known as metastasis. Cancer arises from changes in the DNA of cells, which can be caused by genetic mutations inherited from parents or acquired mutations resulting from environmental factors such as radiation, carcinogens, and infections.

There are over 100 different types of karsygdomme, each with unique characteristics and behaviors. They are typically named after the organ or type of cell in which they originate, such as lung cancer, breast cancer, or leukemia. Lifestyle choices such as maintaining a healthy diet, engaging in regular physical activity, avoiding tobacco and excessive alcohol consumption, and protecting oneself from excessive sun exposure can lower the risk. Early detection through regular screenings for certain types of cancer, like breast and colon cancer, can also improve treatment outcomes and survival rates.
