Kapillaariveri

Kapillaariveri refers to the blood found within capillaries, the smallest blood vessels in the circulatory system. These microscopic vessels form a network throughout the body's tissues, facilitating the exchange of oxygen, nutrients, and waste products between the blood and the surrounding cells. The walls of capillaries are extremely thin, typically consisting of a single layer of endothelial cells, which allows for efficient diffusion.

The blood within capillaries is often a rich source of diagnostic information. Due to their accessibility, capillary blood samples are commonly collected for various medical tests, such as blood glucose monitoring, hemoglobin A1c measurements, and certain blood typing procedures. This method is often preferred for infants and individuals who have difficulty with venous blood draws, as it requires only a small puncture to obtain a sample.

The composition of capillary blood is similar to venous blood, though it can be influenced by local tissue metabolism and the dynamics of blood flow at the microcirculatory level. While it is a readily available source for point-of-care testing and routine screenings, it's important to note that for certain laboratory analyses requiring larger volumes or specific anticoagulants, venous blood remains the standard. The process of obtaining capillary blood involves a lancet to prick the skin, and the resulting drop of blood is then collected using a capillary tube or directly applied to a testing strip.
