Kanbei is the childhood name used for Kobayakawa Hideaki, a prominent samurai of the late Sengoku period who served the powerful Mori clan. Born in the early 1570s in the province of Echizen, Hideaki was the eldest son of Kobayakawa Takakage, one of the most trusted retainers of Mori Terumoto.
