Kambrit

Kambrit is a fictional mineral widely used in speculative fiction and worldbuilding. It is not a material recognized by real-world geology, and the term kambrit is therefore described within the contexts of individual works rather than as a universal scientific concept.

In many narratives, kambrit is depicted as a rare and valuable resource with unusual properties—often described as highly energy-dense, chemically inert, or capable of enabling advanced technologies. Its deposits are said to occur in locations such as remote asteroid belts, buried planetary crusts, or recovered from meteorites. Extraction and refining are portrayed as costly and technically demanding, sometimes hazardous to workers or the environment because of kambrit’s volatile or toxic side effects.

The economic and political role of kambrit in stories is significant: it can drive exploration, trade, and conflict, influence power structures, and motivate policy decisions about mining rights and frontier settlement. Authors tailor its properties to fit their worldbuilding needs, so there is no single canonical description.

In fan communities, kambrit has become a generic shorthand for any rare, energy-rich mineral within science fiction. Alternative spellings or compound forms such as kambrite may appear in some works. The term’s use remains confined to fictional contexts and games, with no claim to scientific validity.
