Etymology: The name Kaltis derives from an old Kaltic word kalti meaning frost, a reflection of its northern climate and the long tradition of winter trade that has shaped its economy and culture.

Geography and climate: The city sits on a promontory backed by limestone cliffs. It experiences cold, wet winters and cool summers. The surrounding hinterland is hilly and forested, with salt flats along the coast. The harbor is protected by a pair of breakwaters that create a natural basin for ships of varying sizes.

History: Founded in the early centuries of Eldoria by rival maritime clans, Kaltis grew through trade and shipbuilding. It endured sieges and piracy but remained a central marketplace. The Conclave of Merchants rose to power in the medieval era of Eldoria, shaping governance and external alliances.
