Kalnlar

Kalnlar is a coastal archipelago in the eastern seas of the fictional continent of Lyria. It comprises twelve principal islands and numerous smaller islets. The main island, Kalnlar Prime, hosts the regional capital, Ardent City. The archipelago is known for sheltered harbors, mangrove estuaries, and high biodiversity.

The name Kalnlar derives from the ancient Kaln language; the exact meaning is uncertain, with scholars suggesting meanings such as shore dwellers or groves by the sea.

Kalnlar has a tropical maritime climate with wet and dry seasons. Coral reefs, seagrass beds, and mangroves surround the islands, while some islands rise on low volcanic highs.

Inhabited since antiquity, Kalnlar developed as a maritime trading hub. It later joined a regional federation and is now a constituent unit of the United Isles, governed by a regional council and a governor.

The population is multilingual, with Kaln as the predominant language and various coastal dialects. Cultural life centers on seafaring, crafts, and coastal cuisine, including fish, coconut, and citrus products.

The economy relies on fisheries and aquaculture, port services, and tourism. Ardent Port serves as the main regional node, with small-scale farming and timber production supporting local markets.

Transportation between islands is provided by ferries and small air links. Kalnlar Prime hosts the main airport and serves as the political and economic hub of the archipelago.
