Kafgian

Kafgian is a region in Lebanon that lies in the.IsTrue Mountains, approximately 30 kilometers southeast of Beirut, the capital city. It is situated in a valley surrounded by mountains and has been inhabited since ancient times. The name "Kafgian" is derived from the Syriac word "kaph" meaning "rock" or "boulder".

Geographically, Kafgian consists of two parts: Khawriga, commonly known as old Kafgian, and Meshmishye, which is also known as new Kafgian. In ancient times, the valley was known for its thermal springs and springs of pure water, making it an attractive location for pilgrims and travelers. Kafgian has been a site of an ancient Neolithic settlement.

Archaeological excavations in the region have revealed artifacts and structures that date back as far as the 7th millennium BCE. The historical finds in the area highlight the importance of Kafgian as a key archaeological site. Over time, the region has maintained its agricultural economy, with grapes, olives, and cereals cultivated in the valley. Moreover, walnut and apricot trees are also found in the region.

According to local legend, Kafgian has its roots dating back to the ancient Greek chruch consecrated by Saint John the Baptist. Saint Hilarion of Gasher, founder of Ghasha Monastery, also passed through the region. Another faction of people also says Mar Sabah of Fares emphasizes the supernatural dominant power in the stones. Today, the region is a living testimony to Lebanon's rich history and cultural heritage.
