Kachishima

Kachishima is a small, uninhabited island located in the Ryukyu Islands of Japan. Administratively, it is part of the Yaeyama Islands district within Okinawa Prefecture. The island is situated approximately 10 kilometers west of the larger island of Iriomote.

Geologically, Kachishima is composed of coral and sandstone, typical of the Ryukyu Island chain. Its terrain is generally low-lying and characterized by rocky shores and sparse vegetation, including scrub and small trees. The surrounding waters are known for their clear, blue color and are part of a vibrant marine ecosystem, making the area popular for diving and snorkeling.

Historically, Kachishima has seen limited human activity. It is not permanently inhabited and serves primarily as a natural reserve. Due to its remote location and undeveloped nature, it remains largely untouched by modern development. The island's primary significance lies in its ecological value and its contribution to the unique biodiversity of the Yaeyama Islands. Occasional visits by researchers and ecotourists are the extent of human interaction.
