Kaartwerken is a Dutch term that designates cartography and map-related works. It can refer to both the practice of map-making and the bodies of work produced, such as atlases, nautical charts, city plans, and thematic maps.

Historically, kaartwerken arose with the expansion of maritime trade, scientific surveying, and state administration in the early modern Netherlands. Geographers, engravers, and publishers collaborated to produce comprehensive map series that combined geographic information with decorative elements. Major map selling centers included cities like Amsterdam and Delft, where copperplate engravings and later lithographic processes were used to reproduce maps for wide circulation.

Techniques and output commonly included navigational charts, coastal and harbor plans, topographic and cadastral maps, and atlas compilations. Earlier kaartwerken relied on copperplate engraving, woodcut, and hand-colored finishes, evolving later to lithography and other printing technologies.
