KDX

KDX, also known as KDX-1, is a series of amphibious assault ships developed by the South Korean shipbuilding company Daewoo Shipbuilding & Marine Engineering (DSME). The KDX series is designed to provide a versatile platform for naval operations, capable of conducting both amphibious assaults and various other missions. The first ship in the series, KDX-1, was commissioned in 2002 and has since been followed by several additional vessels.

The KDX-1 is a 15,000-ton ship with a length of approximately 160 meters and a beam of 25 meters. It is powered by two gas turbines and two diesel engines, providing a maximum speed of around 25 knots. The ship is equipped with a well deck for landing and launching helicopters, as well as a flight deck for fixed-wing aircraft. Its amphibious capabilities include the ability to transport and deploy troops, vehicles, and equipment.

The KDX series has been designed to meet the evolving needs of the Republic of Korea Navy (ROKN). The ships are equipped with advanced sensors and weapons systems, including surface-to-air missiles, anti-ship missiles, and machine guns. They also feature a modern command and control system, allowing for effective coordination of operations.

The KDX series has played a significant role in the ROKN's operations, participating in various exercises and missions. The ships have demonstrated their versatility and capability in conducting amphibious assaults, as well as other naval operations. The KDX series is expected to remain a key component of the ROKN's fleet for many years to come.
