Käsikultivaatorid, also known as hand cultivators or trowel cultivators, are small, handheld gardening tools designed for loosening and aerating soil in smaller garden beds, containers, or around established plants. They typically feature several tines or prongs, usually made of metal, attached to a handle. The number and shape of the tines can vary, with some having three or four broad tines and others featuring narrower, pointed prongs.

The primary function of a hand cultivator is to break up compacted soil, which improves drainage and allows for better air circulation. This process also helps to incorporate amendments like compost or fertilizer into the soil more effectively. Gardeners use them to remove weeds by their roots, as the tines can easily get beneath smaller weeds and lift them from the ground. They are also useful for preparing planting holes for seedlings or small plants, creating a loosened area for roots to establish.

Unlike larger, powered tillers, hand cultivators offer precise control, making them ideal for working in tight spaces or near delicate plants where larger tools might cause damage. Their compact size also makes them easy to store and transport. The ergonomic design of the handles aims to reduce hand fatigue during use.
