Jégkezelési refers to the practice of managing and maintaining ice surfaces, primarily for sports and recreational purposes. This process is crucial for ensuring optimal playing conditions, safety, and the longevity of the ice. The most common application is in ice hockey rinks, but it also extends to figure skating, curling, and speed skating venues.

The core of jégkezelési involves several key steps. Firstly, regular scraping or "shaving" of the ice surface is performed to remove imperfections, such as skate marks and debris, creating a smooth and even layer. This is typically done using a specialized machine known as an ice resurfacer or Zamboni. Following the scraping, a thin layer of hot water is applied. The heat causes the water to melt slightly into the existing ice, bonding with it and creating a fresh, smooth surface as it refreezes.

Beyond routine maintenance, jégkezelési also encompasses temperature control. Ice rinks utilize refrigeration systems to maintain the ice at a consistent and optimal temperature, usually around -4 to -6 degrees Celsius, which is ideal for hardness and preventing excessive melting. In some cases, techniques like "cutting" or "flooding" may be employed to thicken or repair sections of the ice. Proper jégkezelési requires skilled operators who understand the nuances of ice behavior and the specific needs of different ice sports. The goal is to provide a safe, fast, and consistent playing surface for athletes and enthusiasts alike.
