Järjestelmäpalautukset, known in English as System Restore, is a feature in Microsoft Windows operating systems that allows users to revert their computer's system files, installed applications, Windows Registry, and system settings to a previous state. This is achieved by creating "restore points" at regular intervals or when significant system changes are made, such as software installations or driver updates.

When a user initiates a system restore, Windows examines the available restore points and rolls back the system files and registry to the selected point in time. This process does not affect personal files like documents, pictures, or emails. However, any programs or drivers installed after the chosen restore point was created will be uninstalled. This makes System Restore a valuable troubleshooting tool for resolving issues caused by corrupted system files, faulty software installations, or driver conflicts that can lead to system instability or crashes.

The feature can be accessed through the System Properties dialog in Windows. Users can choose to manually create a restore point or let the system automatically create them. If a problem arises, they can select a restore point from a list, typically ordered by date, to undo recent changes without losing their personal data. While effective for many software-related issues, System Restore cannot fix hardware problems or restore deleted personal files. It is a preventative measure and a recovery tool for operating system integrity.
