The name is constructed for fictional purposes; in-world linguistics it resembles Finno-Ugric phonology, with the -olla suffix indicating a container, though there is no direct real-language etymology.

Physically, a juotolla is typically a shallow, footed bowl with a short stem and a lid or saucer; sizes vary from small personal cups to larger communal vessels. Materials include ceramic, tin, brass, or carved wood. Decoration features geometric motifs, inlays, or engravings that signify lineage or clan marks; variants exist for everyday versus ceremonial use.
