Jubilate

Jubilate is a verb in English meaning to rejoice or celebrate with great joy, especially in a public or ceremonial manner. The term is largely archaic or formal in ordinary prose today, and is more commonly encountered in religious or ceremonial contexts. The word comes from the Latin jubilare, to exult or shout for joy, related to jubilatio (jubilation).

In liturgical usage, Jubilate is also the incipit and title of the Latin canticle Psalm 100, commonly known as Jubilate Deo. In Catholic and Anglican rites it is used as a short canticle or hymn within the Divine Office or the liturgy of the hours, often recited or chanted after Morning Prayer or at other services. The Latin title Jubilate Deo appears in many hymnals and is sometimes translated as "Be ye joyful in the Lord, all ye lands" or more simply "Make a joyful noise unto the Lord." The text expresses rejoicing in God’s deeds and blessings.

In general English, jubilate tends to occur in historical or poetic contexts and is sometimes used as a formal alternative to "rejoice" or "celebrate." The related noun is jubilation, while the verb form is seldom used in modern prose outside quotations or ceremonial speech.
