Jordfattige

Jordfattige is a Swedish term that translates to "poor soil" or "infertile land." It describes areas of land with limited nutrient content, poor water retention, or unfavorable soil structure, making them difficult to cultivate for agriculture. These conditions can arise from various factors, including the type of bedrock, glaciation, erosion, or prolonged periods of intense farming without adequate soil management.

Historically, jordfattige regions presented significant challenges for human settlement and food production. Communities in these areas often relied on less demanding agricultural practices, such as grazing livestock or cultivating hardy, low-yield crops. In some cases, these lands were more suited for forestry or other non-agricultural uses.
