The term highlights the role of jet dynamics in shaping storm tracks, precipitation, and temperature anomalies. It may appear as jet-stream influenced or jetstream-influenced in various texts.

Jet streams, near the tropopause at about 8–15 km altitude, steer weather systems through advection and wind shear. A strong, wavy jet can deepen troughs and amplify ridges, redirecting storm tracks and rainfall. A weakened or anomalous jet can permit blocking patterns, causing prolonged conditions. These effects interact with larger climate modes such as ENSO and the Arctic Oscillation.
